NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Washtenaw County is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the lives of persons affected by mental illness. Individuals with these biological disorders, their families and friends, mental health professionals, and the broader community can all benefit from the organization’s mission:NAMI Washtenaw County is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and a local affiliate of the national NAMI and NAMI Michigan. Our mission is to:

Support: people affected by mental illness

Eradicate:discrimination and stigma associated with mental illness

Educate:the community about mental illness and available resources

Advocate for insurance parity, optimal treatment, rehabilitation services, desirable living situations and meaningful work for all individuals coping with mental illness.

Please consider taking a brief survey concerning your experiences with mental health services in Washtenaw County. Because we do not yet have the kind of Web site that can guarantee your privacy, we are requesting that you download the survey to your computer and return it via US Postal Mail to us. The address is included in the survey document.

Managing Depression: From Aerobics to Zoloft .

Speakers: Michelle Belke, LMSW and Alison Roth-Kerner, LMSW

Join University of Michigan Social Workers Michelle Belke and Alison Roth-Kerner for a discussion of the many ways you or a loved one can manage depression. The talk will give a brief overview of treatments such as medicine and talk therapy. It will also explore exercise, nutrition, the importance of support, and complementary & alternative methods for addressing depression’s effects on how we feel and think. Learn about how research is working to find new answers. There will be time for questions and answers.

Time: 7:30-9:00pm.

Depression in Youth Taking an unanticipated path, Jeff Edwards' presentation reveals that which has gone unrecognized despite its' standing right before our eyes: the warning signs of mental illness, youth depression and suicide. Presenting an alternate perspective and reference set, Jeff Edwards offers relevant insight and beneficial perspective in our quest to dispel the myths, as well as break down the stigmas, associated with Mental Illness, Youth Depression and Suicide."
