EVENT Alert:

The local Kalamazoo County CMH, KCMHSAS, is holding an annual Mental Health Breakfast at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo on Thursday, April 26, 2012 beginning at 0930. Keynote speaker is the former U.S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

AFTER the Mental Health Breakfast, at about 11AM , the Hon. Patrick Kennedy, with NAMI National personnel, will hold a public forum at the Radisson Plaza Hotel on the Federal Mental Health Parity law that was approved by Congress in the 2007-2008 time frame. Since Michigan is one of about 9 states not having a state mental health parity law that topic will certainly also be discussed.

Persons, who use insurances from private employers and are having issues with mental health insurance coverage vis-à-vis physical health coverage, are needed to testify at this April 26th, 2012 “Federal Parity Field Hearing” . In addition, we need to hear from persons (Reserve and National Guard personnel) who have returned from serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and have found difficulty with their private insurances covering the costs of their private mental health treatment.

Reservations for the Mental Health Breakfast can be made with Paul Esman, pesman@kazoocmh.org
